To meet constantly increasing demands for fresh water, research has
gone into finding effiecient water desalting methods. The most widely
used method, flash evaporation, involves heating seawater and pumping
it into lower-pressure tanks. The water abruptly vaporizes into steam,
which then condenses into pure water.
The major problem in desalinization projects is the cost of producing
the fresh water, a cost of $1+ per 3800L (1000 gallons). New desalting
methods being planned are designed to operated for 20-30¢ per 3800L.
The method of desalinization pictured is called Solar Desalinization.
